The challenges

What made this one hard.

  • Problem

A steep, wooded slope, and trees the owners wanted kept.

    Solution

We surveyed every trunk over 12 inches and set the house between them, on piers rather than a dug-out basement.

  • Problem

Hundred-foot poplars close to the roof.

    Solution

An arborist’s root map shaped the foundations, and a standing-seam steel roof sheds whatever falls.

“We were told we’d lose half the trees. Morrow kept all but two, and you can feel it in every room.”
